3 on 3 Hoopfest Tournament

Here is information on the 2nd Annual 3 on 3 Hoopfest at Mountain View on May 18th. These types of tournaments can be a lot of fun for our players, and another great opportunity to keep playing basketball, in a different format, during the off-season. Players will need to organize and register their own teams if this is something they would like to participate in.

Here is the info from Coach Oakey:

There are three divisions in the tournament for both boys and girls: 7-9th grade, High School, and High School Graduates and above.

This is a really fun event and a great way for you or your athletes to play some competitive basketball. Last year we had 50 teams register from all over Utah County and we hope to double it this year. Both the men's and women's divisions included many ex-college players and was very competitive. Each participant will get a t-shirt as well as other prizes for the winners in each division.

Go to www.mvhsgirlsbasketball.blogspot.com to register and get more information. The cost is $60/team and each team will play at least 3 games.

Check out the flyer and please let your athletes know about this fun event. Feel free to forward this to anyone I may have missed!

Thought for today: Winning Habits....

Winning Habits

“Champions do not become champions on the court. They merely become recognized on the court.  They become champions because of their daily routine and daily commitment to excellence. Players do not decide their future; they decide their habits and their habits decide their future!”

Everything begins with how you think and what you think. You have 100% control over your thoughts.

 Your thoughts become your words.
Your words become your actions.
Your actions become your habits.
Your habits become your character.
Your character becomes your destiny.

Therefore, being successful at anything is determined by your daily choices and habits.
Speaking of habits… winning is a habit.  Unfortunately so is losing.

 Winners are confident. Losers worry.
Winners hustle. Losers loaf.
Winners give praise. Losers complain.
Winners listen. Losers talk.
Winners are accountable. Losers point the finger.
Winners are enthusiastic. Losers lack passion.
Winners are great teammates. Losers are selfish.
Winners never quit. Losers give up.
Winners have focus. Losers get frazzled.
Winners have discipline. Losers are weak.
Winners play for ‘we.’ Losers play for ‘me.’
Winners have urgency. Losers procrastinate.
Winners have pride. Losers don’t care.
Winners are coachable. Losers already know it all. Winners are humble. Losers are cocky.

Winners prepare their minds and bodies to win on a daily basis.  Winners do what losers don’t want to do.

Do you have the habits of a winner?

UVU Camp Information

I have posted a page of information regarding the various UVU basketball camps and jamborees that we would like our high school players to attend this summer. Check it out and plan accordingly. In addition to the team camp and jamborees, I would encourage all players to try to make it to the High Intensity camp in late June. Players that have attended this in the past have found it to be a good experience. Here is the link to the info:

4th Period class options for next year...

In order to be able to have practice during the A-4 class period next season, the players will have to set up their schedules accordingly. Here are the 3 options that were presented:

Option 1: Register for Seminary class during A-4, attend this during 1st term. Switch to early morning Seminary during 2nd and 3rd term, in order to open up A-4 for practice. Then switch back to A-4 Seminary during 4th term if desired.

Option 2: Find a 1 semester credit class during A-4 with a teacher that is willing to work with you. Take this class 1st term, and then finish the class during 4th term.. You would then be in basketball practice during A-4 for 2nd and 3rd term.. (Mr. Blakey, in the counseling center, may be able to help you find a class/teacher for this option).

Option 3: If you are taking 2 or more A.P. courses, you may sign up for the A.P. Study Hall in the Library. Take this study hall during A-4. During basketball season, the administration will let you out of the study hall to participate in A-4 basketball practice.

Again, the coaches and administration are open to other viable options as well, so if you have any other ideas, please let us know. IF we are going to go this route, ALL players have to be able to work their schedules out accordingly. If some players can't work it out, we will have to stick with our normal practice schedule that we have used in years past.
